To pick up from where I left off last night... Of course, all that Selfitude cannot be only about Boundaries and assertion of my opinions. But you knew that. Tonight we find the Selfitude that has the Heart at its center.
An interesting tidbit about the Heart... The Heart, in Jewish tradition, is not strictly the seat of our emotions. Rather, it is the seat of the intellect. But not the intellect as we understand it today. The Heart carries an intellect infused with intuition and feeling - thought Harmonized with emotion. In a way, not only is the Heart the seat of Tiferet, Tiferet is the seat of the Heart.
The Heart within our Selfitude is thoughtful, taking in the full scope of a moment, assessing the level and type of Strength appropriate to the situation. The Heart within our Selfitude considers the feelings of another in relation to our own, as we determine how much to give, how much to withhold. As the saying goes, I needn’t hide my light under a bushel, but neither does it have to be a glaring, flashing neon.
Then there’s also the Beauty within Reality. During those aforementioned dark days of mine, I was quite convinced that people who were generally happy were probably generally clueless. Thankfully, I have been able to learn a new way. Sure, life is grimy. And yet, there is plenty of Beauty to go around. At this time of year, you don’t have to look too hard to see it. I defy you to NOT smile at a stand of daisies! I am also reminded of Aesop’s fable in which the sun and the wind have a bet as to who will sooner get some hapless human to take off his clothes. When was the last time a gust of wind caused you to unbutton your coat?
Of course, these physical manifestations of Beauty serve to take me much deeper. Not that those poppies up on Crescent Street don’t go unfathomably deep, but you know what I mean...
Today, may you open to the infinite layers of Beauty within Reality. May your fully Actualized Self be guided by the thinking, feeling Heart within.
